Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Chamber e-Reminder
Note to Self
Friday marks the Opening Day of another “hunting season” and, before you get sucked into the whirlwind of Holiday Shopping, I wanted to plant a seed to remind you to Shop Locally. I can’t say it enough – without your support and the support of your fellow members – we couldn’t exist. On my wall hangs two original, official State documents from the history of your Chamber. The first is dated and sealed on the Eighth day of April, 1891 and, the other, the 20th of June, 1952.
For well over 100 years, our local business members have pooled their resources to encourage a healthy business climate and promote Door County to the rest of the world. Without the support of each other, they couldn’t do it and, without each other, we couldn’t do it.
Show your support and appreciation by shopping locally and giving generously to our local non-profits. Without them, the place we hold so dear, would just be any other place.
For an easy way to find local businesses, check out our online Business Directory from www.DoorCountyChamber.org or shop online at: www.DoorCounty.com
Supporting each other is a great way to start the season.
Join in on the fun!
The Annual Jacksonport Thanksgiving Day Parade – Just like Macy’s – but, on a much tighter budget .
This parade is sooooooooooooooooooo hometown. You will actually get to see it twice !!! Once coming and, once going!
Starting from the Jacksonport Town Hall, the parade will travel south, along Hwy 57 to Mike's Port Pub, then north to the Square Rigger and back south to the Town Hall... Gobble, gobble, fun, fun.
Bring the whole family and be sure to have a few bucks in your pocket for the "Adopt a Family" donation bucket that will be passed around.
You’re invited to help make this our biggest parade ever!
The word on the street (and I use that term loosely) is that the parade will start at 12 noon on Thursday Nov. 25. (12:08 if you are on Door County time)
Those with horses should meet at Verlin Kiehnau's "Horse Palace" - any time after 10am.
This year we are adding a pet parade and encouraging anyone to bring a well behaved pet, in costume.
Floats, cars, etc. can meet and line-up at the Town Hall by 11:00. See you there!
The Village of Egg Harbor will be filled with family fun during the 11th Annual Holly Days Festival, to be held this weekend.
PR and Poster can be found here!

Wisconsin’s “No Call” List
If you were among the first to register your number, it’s time to register again. To keep the list fairly accurate, the State will only hold your number for two years before you have to register again. On a similar note, if you know of a vulnerable friend, neighbor or family member who could be intimidated by telemarketers – please, take the time to ask if you could help register them as well.
The list is free and available for residential telephone customers throughout Wisconsin. Your number will remain on the List for two years and adding your residential phone number to the List will help reduce (but not eliminate) telemarketing calls to your home.
You can sign up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:
· By visiting the Wisconsin No Call List website by clicking here.
· By calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255) toll-free in Wisconsin.
For more information about the No Call List, check out their website at: nocall.wisconsin.gov

Happy Franksgiving!
When is Thanksgiving? The current formula was not established by the moon, harvest or, historical event but, indeed, the Christmas Shopping Season! Who would have thunk it? In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving up one week, to appease businesses that wanted a longer Christmas shopping season. (and we were wondering what the government has ever done for us) As expected, many opposed the change and the dissidents kept on celebrating Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November and started referring to the new date as "Franksgiving". In 1941, Roosevelt signed a bill to officially make Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November and that, my friends, is why we celebrate Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of the month some years and, the second to last, other years.

Here’s a little something to stick in your holster in case you need to distract the hungry throngs while you wait for the Turkey timer to Pop.
For years, various friends and family would throw around the word “Tryptophan” as the culprit behind the annual Thanksgiving lul but, it turns out that L-tryptophan is not to blame for the sudden lethargy that hits when it’s time to do dishes. Yes, this nifty amino acid can induce fatigue but, only on an empty stomach. When consumed with other foods, this molocule will quickly latch onto other proteins, renduring it harmless. The actual cause of the fatigue, so closely associated with Thanksgiving, is simply due to overeating - not just turkey, but mashed potatoes, cranberries, yams, peas, carrots, bread, pies, whipped cream and much, much more. When you eat that much, your stomach needs all the blood it can get to take on the challenge of digesting all that food. Consiquently, the divergent bloodflow leaves your brain with barely enough oxygen to survive – which explains a few other holiday recurrences. So, now you know.
If you really want to stump’em, start sketching out the molecule while you present your case. You’ll be glad you signed up for this little newsletter.
Oh, and one more thing…
I’ve been collecting some pretty valuable information for the Ready-to-Print section of the member’s site. If you’re not taking advantage of it, you’re missing out. Not only is it informative but, you could make a big difference by spreading the word to your customers. If fact, if you have a website, why not add a link to the poster – your customers might even hang it up at work. And then, what might happen?
