Chamber e-Reminder
New Planner Examples Posted Online
To
better illustrate the 2007 Vacation Planner formats, a new example
has been posted on the members’ website at:
Ad Layouts:
http://www.doorcountychamber.org/Publications/VP07-Ad-Layouts-Detail.html
Charts:
http://www.doorcountychamber.org/Publications/Sample-2007-VP-Charts.pdf
Our
apologies to anyone who misunderstood our examples to include a
Door County logo on each ad – this is where YOUR logo would be
featured. With a commitment to recreate the Door County Vacation
Planner with the Visitor in mind, your Publications Committee
literally investigated hundreds of guide books to find the very
best of the best. The conclusion was hard to swallow but it was
clear there would have to be hard changes if we were going to
expect different results. None of the smaller sized publications
offered more than a directory and we realized that even TV Guide
has changed to a magazine sized publication. The larger pages
offer an ample palette to paint the Door County experience with
inviting copy and intoxicating photos. The many experiences to
enjoy in Door County will be highlighted by smaller breakout boxes
featuring related activities and businesses that provide the fun.
The whole piece will be completed with an extensive resource of
easy to use maps, charts and directories. Whether you’re a
traveler deciding where to go on your next vacation or, what to do
next while in Door County, our new Vacation Planner will make you
want to go there.

In Your Own Words
Unfortunately, only two or three people offered to submit copy for
the 2007 Vacation Planner. We are offering you the opportunity to
express the experience you create in Door County – in your words.
The actual writing does not have to be completed right away, we
only need to know that you would consider the task.
Smaller “breakout Articles” will start around 200 words, with main
categories up to 1,000 words.
Don’t be shy, send in your reply.

Deadlines
Contract Deadline: Sept. 29, 2006
Art Deadline: Oct. 20, 2006
Did you know that
our publications are laid out by a team of ONE? Your early
submission of Contracts and Artwork are a BIG HELP during the
planning stages and always work to your favor. Each year we
receive a disproportionate number of late submissions and, even
though we accept them with a smile, you can’t imagine the trouble
and frustration this causes in the actual layout process. It is
far easier to make changes than it is to make room so, please help
us – help you - by making time to
complete your contract as soon as
you receive it and returning it to us in one of the
following ways:

Online Examples of Charts and Ad Format
Two
changes, which may affect the way you plan your Ad for this year’s
Vacation Planner, are the Ad and Chart formats.
The
new format is designed to address the needs of today’s traveler
and the way they gather information. This will be a departure
from the past we’re certain about the needed change.
To
help our visitors navigate the peninsula, color coding will
enhance our publication by associating specific colors to areas
within the County and then carrying that color through Charts,
Maps, Listings and Display Ads.
The following mock-ups were designed with elements at hand.
Please disregard any possible association with pictures or
familiar names used to illustrate the new formats – they are only
samples. The logos incorporated into the examples are only
examples. Your logo would appear on the ad – not the Door County
logo.

you may have.

I’m excited to see what you come up with.
Thanks in advance.
